Final touches for ArchiCAD

finishing up ArchiCAD
Update
The cad section of our assignment is so close to finish, today I added more gdl windows and a glass fence around the deck, hopefully that doesn’t interfere with the deck you are working on Steve. From here on we just need a roof over the hall way, someone needs to make sure all the parts of the project are different materials so Ryan doesn’t have trouble changing them in Artlantis. Steve can you please add doors and windows and objects at home as the library has disappeared from the bim server, I believe lots of other groups have had this problem also.
If you can think of anything more that needs to be done post a comment here, so we can all see the progress
Cheers!

Do we need fences?
I just wanted your opinions on fences. Do you think we need a fence around the whole property? I like the idea that it is just around the front? Also I don’t know what the boundaries of the property are. I will compare it to my site boundary from the previous assignment tomorrow, but if I forget can you guys also do the same?
Cheers
Observation 101
Just thought i would shared a little incident i overheard (Definitely didnt eavesdrop) in the computer lab yesterday within one of the other groups that you might find entertaining and also a slighty bigger issue than our text message incident ;)
*Please note this information has been documented strictly for educational purposes only, names, group numbers and personal information have been left out for legal reasons*
.. Lets just say the Project Architect within this group took(her)position quite seriously and within the course of 45 minutes gave each member (both present and not in attendence) a critical analysis of there current progress to date.
She initially began by informing the group, that as PA, it was her job to ensure everyone was pulling there weight and contributing as much time and effort as herself, and of course to inform the members of any discrepancies or incorrect tasks they had carried out as that is what happens in the real world (At this stage i had an immediate flash of Max Markson on celebrity apprentice).
She then started on a group member, (that by observation, had contributed alot of time to the project), informing that everything she had done was wrong!. And that she, as pm had not spent all this time setting up the programm and website, for this member to do it any other way. So she was direct to start again.
She then went on to inform the group she had the concept design completed and no one was to stray from this plan, To also telling an international student, who sat slightly intimidated in the corner, that she had, even through multiple instruction, continued to post her blogs in incorrect places. To lastly complaining that other members had not been pulling their weight, and fuming that the last member had ruined (contributed) her website programming.
After 45 minutes of tearing every group member to shreads, one of the group members leaving, and the other admitting defeat, a few observations can be made.
1) Definitely the most entertaining 45 mins of my day
2) STOKED she is not in our group
3) A more integrated approach to group work (in which we have implemented in our group) i think is a definite positive, whilst we all have been delegated specific tasks, rather than running a dictatorship, working as commrades i feel will provide a positive and successful outcome. As long as we all contribute and continue to converse and implement everyones ideas, and more importantly our strengths, we will all learn the necessary skills this assignment intends us to achieve.
Just a few house keeping notes, and an update of the archicad 3d model, i spent yesterday refining structural systems for the roof and wall systems to try get the building to lock up stage.
At this stage of the project i have taken on more of the structural architect role to push model completion, and i think it can be noted that Steve, Kate and i have integrated a lot of our roles to get everything done before friday.
As far as todays progress goes and as far as i am aware, Steve is working on completing the deck, kate the landscaping and i am heading in after work tonight to complete the model.
I think from Ryans initial design and concept progression it can be determined that our design is influenced by that of critical regionalism. Therefore when considering structural solutions, precedence was taken from such starchitects as Glenn Murcutt and Peter Stutchbury and more localised architects as Helen Stronach.
In terms of interior design, i have adapted the role of structural engineer to complement
ideas for the interior design. All rooms contain exposed beams and rafters with multiple use of glass.
Ryan mentioned yesterday that he was unsure of the design of the structure around the courtyard(for presentation purposes) - as it was a bit plain with one wall enclosing the yard to the east. Therefore to complement Kates terraced courtyard i tried to implement multiple roof levels, with varied overhangs to provide shade to the courtyard. This with steves glassed internal courtyard will proved an opportunity for varied digital images. Again, let me know what you all think and any ideas you have, and if you want me to change anything.
Just lastly, It was also discussed yesterday there is a problem importing objects (windows & doors)on the BIM server, and we would have to do it off hte server. Have we decided what we are doing here?
Also in terms designing furniture layouts etc, how much of this do we want to do within the archicad model vs artlantas??? Ryan, i know you needed frames on the walls for pictures etc,
Are you guys going to your lecture this afternoon? maybe we could meet in the lab after for a quick progress update?
If you guys could let me know your thoughts today that would be great!!
Happy Assignmenting!!! :)

Stephen to Kate

Hi Team,
As you all know the bim server is working for us, last week Steve worked on some of the design in CAD at home and on Friday i tried to move it to our bim server but i had a little bit of trouble with it. It was just to do with the elements needing to be released or something, however to make use of my time it just hide the layer of the old design and moved the new one across, only to realise that when you open the project all the layer are unhidden and it is a bit confusing to read.
So it would be awesome Steve if you have a try at moving the info you worked on across, so that I can begin my part.
I know we all have heaps of other assignments and it is tempting to leave this one till a bit later on but i think we all need to get a move on so its not left to the last minute.
Cheers
Kate

Updating the website
Is it possible for each of us to have our own blog? and then a main blog for group collaboration.
I have viewed serveral other groups websites and have that it would be quite usefull to have our own blogs?
Also it it would be great to see a tab bar at the top of the website to link to individual blogs, one for pictures, one for videos and links to individual profiles.
I'm not sure if this is possible. i Have found a blogging tool called "wordpress" which is quite usefull.
I will see you today and will discuss further.
Thanks

Update from the weedend
I received an email from Ian this weekend :
As I am sure you are all aware, the university is having several issues with its BIM server and in particular with students acquiring access from home. I have had several e-mails from various Project Managers stressing this particular problem and the concern that Teams were not able to work on Assignment 2 during the spring break.
Therefore, Assignment 2 (BIM project) will need to be worked-on in your various teams in the computer lab. There should be no issues accessing the server from there (all issues should be recorded in your blogs).
With this in mind and due to the fact that other submissions are also due in Week 13, I have decided to extend the final submission date for Assignment 2 to week 14, Friday, November 11th.
If you have any questions regarding this issue, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Furthermore, marks and feedback for Assignment 1 can be found at the reception. For those student who have a note asking them to come and see me - I will be in the tutorials tomorrow and in my office throughout the week.
Kind Regards,
Ian Owen
As above, i know we are all struggling to use the BIM server. I will talk to Ian tomorrow at the lecture, i have already posted on black board and emailed Ian about the problem. if there is anyone that would like to add to the slide show please contact me. If not i will see you tomorrow. \

Ryan and I have tried several times to set up the bim server and so far have had no success.
Ryan I was wondering if you have email Ian yet?
Also if we don't manage to get it up an running over the weekend we will still need something to present on Monday, a few suggestions have been to show sketches of our ideas. but we will need more. what are your ideas?
I think we all need to start using the blog more because if we do have hick ups along the way, such as not being able to get bim server running, this is the only way our markers will know about it.
so yeah, get posting
kate :)

Multiple Authors
thanks for the comments today on the blog site.....
I have invited you all to become "authors" so that you can edit the site and post more freely. Let me know if you get some sort of message/invitation to do so and if it works OK for you.
Hopefully now everyone can create new comments and add more detail to their profile.
